5 Ways the Design Chapel is supporting cultural change in Southampton
Lockdown or no lockdown, we’ve all become more and more capable. We know there is a changing architecture in the way we live and work, because we’re a converted chapel (get it?). There are many people leveraging their skills to empower not just their finances but lifestyles too.
That’s where we come in! 🚀
It’s not easy to decide to invest in coworking spaces, particularly if that decision is independent of a supporting employer. With Councillor Daniel Fitzhenry driving the bid as City of Culture 2025, innovative and creative uses of existing listed spaces (that may otherwise bear the weight of maintenance from UK taxpayers’ pockets) like our dinky chapel not only foster a renewed energy surrounding Southampton – but embrace the ability to be bold.
1. Be a part of the change-making community
Work slap-bang in the heritage that is Southampton Common rather than trekking in and out of offices, wherever they may be. Nobody’s productive when they’re tired!
2. Our space is family run. A joint atelier, if you will.
Not only do we host a coworking space in the chapel, but we house permanent residents fruitful amongst the beams. Headed up by chapel owner Chris Orr along with business partner Simon Heron, the team of 10 collaborate to create the well-respected design & marketing agency.
3. Passion bounces off the walls.
Beginning with extensive renovations by Chris and his wife Rachel bringing this chapel to a whole new level, through to the artists hanging – and not ending on the members that bring the buzz (through our secure entry system!)
4. Networking opportunities for Freelancers
They say the 5 people you spend the most time with become you. Working in a growing community space puts you directly in the path of other creatives and professionals. We’ve already witnessed some great collaborations from the wings.
5. Join us with a complimentary Free Day Pass
We’re practicing what we preach – have a day away from the kitchen table and see what it’s like to work in the Design Chapel this year. We hope you love it, but if you don’t leave us some feedback and only return if, and when you want to!
