Converted chapel is the perfect co-working escape for home workers as measures are expected to be lifted
As Plan B measures including for workers to work at home where possible are expected to be lifted at the end of this month, many people are thinking about where they’d like to work moving forward.
A recent Harvard Business School study suggests work-from-home employees are actually working longer hours. An analysis of the emails and meetings of 3.1 million people in 16 global cities found that the average workday increased by 8.2 percent—or 48.5 minutes. This will come as no surprise to lots of those working from home who struggle to separate work and family life.
A new coworking space in Southampton is now open as more people seek variation as the pandemic continues. The Design Chapel is the perfect alternative to commuting to the office or attempting to focus at home.
The chapel which was built in 1846 is beautifully renovated but still features original stained-glass windows and its stunning original features. The space will also be used to host events and workshops and is the perfect setting for a team meeting or seminar.
The Design Chapel has excellent transport links and nearby parking. It’s just a stone’s throw away from the motorway and only a few minutes’ drive from Southampton City Centre. It’s nestled in 326 green acres of Southampton Common so the perfect location if you’re looking to get some exercise or fresh air alongside your working day. The Chapel also features showers and bike storage to encourage sustainable travel.
Clients have the option to buy day passes or commit to more regular visits. There is also a free trial day for those who want to see if coworking could work for them. Coworking also provides the opportunity to meet and collaborate with other businesses and The Design Chapel have already seen the benefits of this collaboration in action.
Chapel owner Chris Orr says “Hybrid working is becoming increasingly popular but lots of people can struggle with working and living in their home. Coworking spaces offer an alternative to bring some balance. We’re getting a lot of interest now, in particular from creatives who feel very comfortable here. All of the feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive.”
Jabez Maclaren says “Transform Venue Ltd decided to work from the Chapel. It has been a game changer for our creative output which has resulted in more clients and better results. It’s been a great move.”
Another Design Chapel client Kelly Hibbs says “I really enjoyed home working at first but I found I missed being around other people and needed some variation. I find my days at The Design Chapel give me a change of scene and are a perfect balance to working at home.”
