We invited Communicare in Southampton round for tea

The festive season brings so much joy and you’ll know what Santa’s grotto really looked like if you visit our chapel in December… but this isn’t the case for everyone. This Christmas loneliness isn’t only weighing on our elderly, the rising cost of living is bringing a similar vulnerability to broader communities and residents nationwide. Age UK’s Christmas research campaign showed “Christmas will be one of the hardest yet for almost 3 million (2.9 million) older people[i], with almost as many (2.7 million) saying they worry they’ll have to reduce their social activities because of the cost of living crisis[ii].”

We are super proud to be able to support local charities like Communicare Southampton with the use of our unique space. Their festive tea party was a team effort, also brought to life through the funding from The Gannett Foundation via The Southern Daily Echo.

The Communicare mission? Enriching the quality of life of lonely and isolated people in Southampton. With committed volunteers acting as “neighbours”; Communicare offer practical and emotional support in a variety of ways at no cost to the service users.

It made my weekend, and it was the highlight of my day. When I got home, I was in a good mood all day because it really cheered me up
